WELCOME to the University Buddhist Education Foundation
The University Buddhist Education Foundation (UBEF) is a not-for-profit
trust, which was established in December 2000 for the purpose of funding the
teaching of Buddhist Studies within universities in Australia.

The UBEF was formally launched on the 8th of April 2001 at the Chinese
Gardens, Darling Harbour, Sydney, in the distinguished presence of Her
Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, Governor of New South Wales.

Since its launch the foundation has supported Buddhist Studies at the
University of Sydney, initially by funding the teaching of two units of
study (Pali and Buddhist Philosophy) and more recently by funding a
lectureship in Buddhist Studies within the Department of Indian
Sub-continental Studies. The UBEF is also committed to funding a
professorship in Buddhist Studies (3 years).

The lectureship has been awarded to Dr Mark Allon. Dr Allon has an Honours
degree in Asian Studies from the Australian National University and a Ph.D.
in Buddhist Studies from the University of Cambridge, England. His area of
specialization is early Buddhist literature and the Pali and Gandhari
languages. He is currently involved in an international project studying and
editing recent discoveries of Buddhist manuscripts from Afghanistan.
The UBEF has provided ongoing financial support to the Australasian
Association of Buddhist Studies (AABS), which was established in 2005 to
promote the academic study of Buddhism. Its activities include hosting a
seminar series, an annual conference, and posting a regular electronic newsletter.

The UBEF would be grateful of all donations to help in its work. All
donations of $2.00 or more to the foundation are tax deductible.
